Liven Up Your Concrete!

Painting Concrete Can be Fun and Effective

For the concrete block:

  1. Paint the concrete block all over with Chalk Paint (here Annie used Giverny)

  2. Rub Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in Warm Gold into the crevices of the concrete

  3. Using a large brush, gently apply another coat of Chalk Paint in Giverny, ensuring that you do not push the paint into the crevices. Make sure that your brush is fairly dry so that the paint doesn’t flow into the areas that you want to remain gold.

  4. When the paint is dry, finish with some Clear Chalk Paint Wax.

For the concrete bowl:

  1. Paint the inside of the bowl with Chalk Paint in Antoinette, and the outside with Chalk Paint in Provence.

  2. Use Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in Warm Gold to rub it into the crevices in the concrete

  3. Using a large brush, gently apply a second coat of Chalk Paint ensuring that you do not push the paint into the crevices. Make sure that your brush is fairly dry so that the paint doesn’t flow into the areas that you want to remain gold.

  4. When the paint is dry, finish with some Clear Chalk Paint Wax.

For the concrete pot:

Take a single piece of masking take long enough to wrap all of the way around your pot. Take the middle of your piece of masking tape and stick it to your pot so that the bottom of the tape is two thirds of the way down the pot.

  1. Now follow the masking tape around the pot sticking it down one side at a time. The sloping side of the pot will mean that the line of the masking tape slopes up as it goes around and the two ends of the tape will meet in a point.

  2. Take some Annie Sloan Gilding Wax in Copper and Warm Gold, and squeeze out a few small blobs of each around the bottom half of the pot. Now rub the gilding wax in, making sure that you blend the two different shades of wax. Keep working the wax until you are happy with the way the copper and gold merge and blend into each other.
